Oh the wheel in the sky keeps on turning. I really don't know where I'll be tomorrow.... but yesterday Melanie and I hit the coq for some powtastic skiing. Saturday we hit the resort at baker and it was ok but I just hate the lifts cause I get so sick, I think its that I'm so nervous sitting on the chair that it makes me want to puke. (yes I know send me the cup) Then also its like your in the white room all day and all you see is these little people moving around and its like vertigo or something. So I would rather earn my turns any day. but it is good to ride the lifts every now and then I guess.

Our new friends Paul and Chris. these guys do avalanche work for Hwy's. We ran into them last week also but had no idea that they might have the dream job. they live in hope too. Oh the dream. Anyhow they had this awesome pit dug so we grilled them on what was going down with the snow pack. Good times and a little learning took place, thanks so much guys. Hope to run into you guys again.

Well its all good in the hood. Connor, Craig and I skied the Coq today, and it was really good. The drive up there was just nut bar with transport trucks in the ditch all over the place. But the trusty Tercel wagon made it safe and sound, as always. It even got us out of a serious tight spot with its ballin 4 wheel drive, Connor was impressed. Oh yeah the ski was really good also like 2.5 feet of fresh blower pow. Only thing is that is kinda cold, the drivebc hwy cam is saying -22. Its like alberta but no oil and no big rock brewery. Just pow and salmon.

Libby took a hit this week, she did a 4 wheel drift into some sort of something and 475$ later she is good to go, maybe I should be a vet and not an Actuary.

picked up some 2 way radios from Costco these things are key when skiing in the trees. I might save my voice cause of them, as for my toes well thats a different story

Chicks and Blow(er)

Winter is back! Its about time. If things go the way the weather man says I'll be skiing chest deep powder right out my front door. As we all know the weather man is always right so so time will tell. Its been a busy couple weeks, the farm got some new chicks on Jan 6th and the little buggers are growing like weeds, so good!

Saturday Melanie, Etsell, and I hit baker to ski the blueberry shoots and it was storming hard! I almost got blown right off the mountain. Vis was not so good and things were getting really wind loaded really fast. We did a couple runs and called it a day. But still got some good turns in. It was a full white room day.

Just sending it! Melanie makes me wear a helmet now. She said I really only have half a brain so I should try and protect it. skiing hard and half a brain go hand in hand. I find myself skiing a whole lot dumber with the lid on because its kinda a license to hit trees right?

Oh its good to be back home. I've done a bit of skiing the last while but not to much cause its been either warm and wet or I've been busy with work. It was a great end of the year and looking forward to 2012 happy new year everyone.

Connor and I did Mt Outram in Manning park. It was our first time on outram and it blew my mind! You park at like 700m and climb on up to the summit at 2400m, its a big mountain but well worth the work to get up it. From the top the view is unreal and the 1000m ski down even more unreal! Connor and I kinda lucked out with conditions, we went on a cold day after a warm and wet spell. The snow was a little skimpy on the lower parts of the trail but as we got up to the alpine it was getting deep and blower. Outram is the boss, I will be back.

the week between Christmas and new years Melanie, Connor and I made the trip to the Duffey Lake area. We skied Joffre Shoulder the first day then over to the Mt Rohr area for the second day. Avi danger was really high all weekend so we played very safe doing multiple short runs in the trees.

new years eve Corndawg, Dawg brew, Etsell and I hit the coq. we stuck to needle trees and just slayed 70cm of fresh snow all day. I dont really have a bunch of photos because we were all to busy skiing the blower pow but this one is of connor pooing his pants. from the top of the ridge to the bottom we timed a run and it was 3min 22seconds. the legs would just be on fire at the end. Im not really a numbers guy but it was a 400m run and we did 5 laps. The snow was as good as it gets.

Went to Hawaii last week. Was an awesome trip! Did awesome stuff everyday and even got to watch Marty and Tara tie the knot. Oh the good times.

the last week was good. Starting pissing rain however high up so skiing pow might be on hold for a week or two. Maybe I'll just head to Hawaii and wait for pow town to come back. sounds good to me.
Wednesday night we rocked a night ski up on Seymour. 900 Lumens what! The snow was like cement but so fun skiing at night with lights. I would love to do a bigger ski at like the coq or baker at night with lights. so fun!

Friday the Corn Dawg Master (CDM) and I hit up the coq for some epic pow! it was puking all week and we hit the goods. I also got to hit some unreal epic trail breaking.

Friday night Toby flew in and then very early saturday Marty, Melanie, Toby and I hit up Squamish for some possible pow. We beat the rain and had some fun so it was good. Not blower unreal dude man but good, and a fun time was had by all.

After the ski Melanie hosted an awesome little dinner party. All the contenders were present. Im the only BC born and raised one at the table. everyone else is from Ontario or Alberia.

We were kinda making bets about who could do a hand stand push ups. Toby did one no prob. Marty not so much. Its ok we know a good physio. Check out the Toby six pack! now what girl wouldn't want to get her hands on that? got me.

Just skied the last 4 days in a row. Im kinda trashed today, so I guess I better get some work done. It was kinda the snow season kick off the last week. Tuesday and Wednesday brought the goods and the rest as they say is history.
Etsell and I hit the baker area thursday, the vis was in and out all day but there was so much snow it didn't really mater. It also snowed the whole day. We skied near the blueberry shoots all day. just laped a bunch of laps.
we skied for about 4hrs and this is what the car looked like when we got back. winter is on the way!

Costco triangle buns, Craig's Mom's cookies, organic free range dried pears, and mini coke make a great lunch for skiing Zoa with the corn dawg!

Skining up in the parking lot. I figured out the best way to skin up before your first up is to do it at home in the warmth of your home. sure beats freezing in the early am.

Corn Dawg is pumped to be out! Were must have been the first people to Zoa this year. I broke trail for 5hrs in about 130cm of fresh snow.

just slaying it. this run at zoa is my favorite and it was so good on this friday, I would like like to hit it a couple more times but had to save some gas for saturday.

sunday was more of an exploring day, we went up chilliwack way to try and find some goods. Didn't really get much but next time I know of some secret stash. Who wants in? Between Etsell, Melanie and Ricky we have about 6$ invested in our ski poles. They all have lasted forever, they never break, they never seize up over the summer when you cant collapse them. Etsell and Ricky also took the straps off theirs and its just sick! plus I put about 100$ in my triangle bun fund by not buying carbon poles that break.

My little rust bucket is the boss! you should have seen the crap it went up. Im betting this winter is the one I roll it into the ditch. should be fun! you know you have a good car when little pieces of it fall off when the snudge fall off.

My new home! I'm thinking a chilliwack hut trip is in order soon? maybe we need a little more snow. We made it up to 1400m and there was 75cm. so its a good start. The last 4 days made me want to move into this cabin and just pound turns all winter but Melanie talked me out of it. If I sound a little angry over the winter thats why.

Last weekend we made a trip to the home of the Squamish wonder child. I got the chance to ride half nelson on the big bad remedy with big meats and I loved it! such a great ride, but its getting cold out! It might be time to put the bike into storage or my non functioning astro van parked in the underground. Any how great day and the mountains are getting white and its time to slay some pow pow. Remember, baker sucks tell your friends.
The deer killer got a puncture on the drive up. Melanie is all thumbs up. We flatted right after Britannia Beach when I was in the process of passing a tanker truck, yeah thats right I was passing someone, bring it!

It was my first flat fix ever! I killed that change over like a nascar pit crew. I know its not pluming or anything but a redneck is always a redneck.

Melanie Bar.
The Ricky Bar is a classic I know but this Bar also has some serious taste and addiction. The MELANIE BAR was invented after a bad experience with a certain bar that costco caries that has moths in it. I guess that's what happens when you make organic stuff, or in this case 70% organic. Anyhow the Melanie Bar gets two thumbs up and does not come with moths.

Ingredients:
1 Cup Butter
1.5 Cups Peanut Butter
1.5 TBSP Vanilla Extract
2 Cups Brown Sugar
1 Cup Corn Syrup
6 Cups Oats
1 Cup Coconut (toasted)
1 Cup Sunflower Seeds (toasted)
1 Cup Sesame Seeds (toasted)
2 Cups Chocolate Chips

Method:

In a skillet, toast coconut, sunflower seeds, and sesame seeds and set aside to cool. In a very large mixing bowl, cream together butter, peanut butter, vanilla, and brown sugar. Add corn syrup an then mix in remaining ingredients. Press into greased (very large or two)12X18 inch cookie sheet. Bake in a 350F oven for approximately 20 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool slightly and cut while still warm.
(You can substitute toasted almonds and 1tsp almond extract for the sunflower seeds and vanilla if you want to mix it up. Or swap the chocolate chips for raisins).

Friday Etsell made me wake up at 5am but it was all worth it in the end. We had an unreal day up at the Heliotrope ridge in pow town conditions. Turns out the early bird gets the worm as we had our way with the fresh untouched slope before the 23 cars pulled into the parking lot and went on to rape the hill. Nothing like fresh untouched in Nov. Toby Roessingh "you've been skiing twice all ready?, you bastard!"

yup thats right, and two awesome days. This past saturday I got out with Melanie Vonshredda for a gooder in the Mt baker area. The ski hill was reporting 7inch new snow the day before. So we hit it as early as possible. We topped out at 2180m around 1130am and then did a bunch of laps. The snow was good but a little wind blown but great turns. plus the weather was killer!

The one thing I really love about my neck of the woods is that the snow is so white but the valley below is so green, even in the fall. Its the best place in the world!

Skiing in Oct. So much fun. We live in the best place on earth! In the last week I've ridden my bike on an alpine ridge, hucked my meat in trees with hero dirt, paddled a huge canyon with big bad salmon jumping all over, and today I skied on a volcano. SO good.
Oct 23rd. Skied with a big group. Nathan "switch" Etsell, Brandon "20 egg omelette" Crichton, Marty "pro deal" Lazarski, Tara "baker" Lazarski, and Melanie "debit" Vaughan.

Monday morning Sullivan, Jamie and I rode elk thurston. It was perfect weather but maybe a little chilly willy at the top. The ground had frost on it in a lot of sections in the shade up high. But for the most part the ground was very hero dirt like and you could just stuff it in the corners! Send it bro! The whole ride from car to top of thurston and back to the car took us 2hrs! The boys ripped it hard on their 2olb xc bikes. What a great morning!

Full Duck Farm

Just did the best ride of the year yesterday with everyone's favorite Notary Scott Simpson. It was the ultimate Chilliwack epic. We rode up the new duck farm, did the heinous climb to hang gliders, descended some sick moto trails, then rode 2cents down on the way home. took about 3.5 hrs and a good time was had by all (except Scott on the way up hang gliders).
good times going up the duck farm, I think Scott is thinking how he can toss his cookies on me.
there is little signs all over the mt now telling you who can use the trail, what they are called, and what way to go. Its such an unreal mt.
Whats up friday morning? this is the view from hang gliders. so sick! we climbed it from the valley floor in about 2.5 hours. I used to do this ride all the time back in my "racing" days but the fact that vedder mt is the wild kingdom with lions tigers and bears oh my I dont really do it that often anymore. I feel like cougar bait out there alone.

29 and 30

The last while has been some good times. I've been riding my bike a lot. It turns out the fall is a great time for bike riding, I would always burn myself out by the time oct rolled around and the thought of touching a bike was the last thing on my mind. Now that Im getting old and fat its the first thing on my mind.
Max looks a little pissed we had to stop for mike to take a call, but he is mike levy and its all business all the time.

I dont know about this. mikes bike is now 28.67 lbs, I guess its better then 28.68. I hope his rotors stay on.

we rode the duck farm, the new duck farm. it was awesome. really nice xc single track. It was kind of a double date with our dogs. Max and Sherpa.

Sherpa must weigh like 10 lbs. mike is to fat and lazy to carry his own tubes jacket and water so he straps like 20lbs of crap to sherpa. Go Sherpa.

After our duck farm day mike lent me his 29er superfly. I rode it for 3 days. My first time ever on a 29er. IT BLEW MY MIND! I will never ride a 26er again. Its so fast and xc feeling, but you can huck and chuck anything. unreal! its only 100mm of travel but its full dude man! I want to race xc again cause of this bike. Its so fast. It feels like you sit in the bike, not on top of it. 26ers are so 2011.

My 30th birthday ride, Melanie, max, Connor, and Scott. Unreal weather and ride. 30 oh boy, I didn't think I would make it this far, but here I am.

So every 2 years the pink salmon run up the river to spawn. They say this year 21 million of them are making the journey to die and lay eggs. Unreal! I've been getting out as much a possible to try and take some of these 21mil. Went the other day with Will and Sherby and we took home 9 fish total. The smoker is running right now and I should have some nice food for those long back country days this winter.

Long weekend

Skiing in Sept and slaying fish. It was the long weekend of long weekends. Thursday Connor and I went to ski baker but decided to make and call about 1000ft short of the summit and turn around because of bad weather. Nothing like some low vis and skiing into one of those cracks you see in the first photo.

Oh summer time, and the livin is easy! Connor is here from Calgary So I've been playing to much this week. Riding and kayaking like there's no tomorrow. Also skied baker again on monday, happy bc day right? I cant believe the amount of snow still up high! its crazy!

Well, I've been really busy since BCBR. It was nice not to ride my bike for a while and do some other things. Like paddle the river and ski, oh yeah and work too.

This past weekend I raced the gear jammer on saturday and finished second to the squamish wonder child. I had to sprint a hungry Kevin Calhoun for second but I got it and true dirty fashion. Sunday I was a little tired and logan wetzel took me by 45 seconds. So two second place finishes at two awesome races.

Oh there has been some damage done. I think BCBR took about ten years off my life. I've been sleeping like 10hrs every night this week and then taking like 2hr naps every afternoon. I hope I can be normal soon.

Well its all said and done, and I am done! BC bike race is now over and I can do nothing for a while. I'm going to spend some time at the beach getting rid of the wicked farmer tan I got all week. OK so it all started in Cumberland last saturday and finished in the whistler hospital a week later. Marty and I raced really well together all week and were second in almost every stage. we had a couple flat tires and some rough patches but for the most part we really killed it. I had so much fun just shredding all the epic single track all week. I just love bc and everything about it. So much fun.
So I finished day 6, and didn't really treat my body that great. Maybe one to many beer, maybe one to many coffee, maybe one to many a&w mozza burgers, maybe not enough water, maybe 6days of hard racing. But the morning of stage 7 you could find me tossing my cookies on the side of the hwy. But marty and tara figured it would be a great idea if I raced. Thanks guys, Im so happy to have friends like you guys.

Marty placed the beer in my hands, him and Simon were going to dump it in my iv drip. Tara had to stop them. Polish people should not be allowed in a hospital.

BC bike race preview

BC bike race starts this weekend. Its going to be the best week of my life I think. Im doing it with the polish wonder and recently crowned king of the shore Marty Lazarski as part of the team Nativo Concepts / Devinci. On wednesday we went and pre rode stage 6 in squamish, and had some team meetings. Tara is going to baby sit us all week. Taraaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!! my legs hurt!!!!!!!!!!!!! taraaaaaaaaaaa!!! You just got to love skiing in june! Matt Toulouse came for a visit and brought his skis and an A attitude. I picked Matt up at the vancouver airport then Marty came over to the farm and with no planing at all we went to give Mt Rainer a shot. We made it no problem, it was over 2 days and we camped at almost 10000ft. then the next day went right to the top its like 1400o something feet above sea level and made moving a little hard. So Friday mt Rainer, and today we skied right off the summit of mt baker. Its been a great weekend so far and we are thinking of doing one more volcano ski before Mat goes home. I put this photo in here for a couple reasons, one marty is behind me, two look how dry and green everything is. Oh we live in the best place ever! now check out some white things.

So I got home from Quebec and decided to skip out on the nimby 50 cause I was just worked from working. I did however race the ski to sea at mt baker with the Clipper Canoe team. We had a great team and finished 7th over all. I was very happy with my ride of the "mt bike" leg. it was mostly road and gravel paths. I was so glad I had that 120mm fork for those road sections. Then I went riding and climbing in Squamish with the wonder child Neal Kindree. Last weekend was the North Shore Bike Fest. 3 races, Friday night, 10min tt. Saturday morning, 2hr cross country. Sunday morning, 23min super D. So Marty won the tt and I was second. I won the XC and marty was second. Marty got 3rd in the Super D and I flatted. So marty won the king of the shore, and I did the drive of shame back to the valley.

Marty and I in the XC. We just crushed it. It was really great practice for BC bike race at the beginning of July. We rode together all day and then I dropped it like it was hot on the last climb of the day and took the win.

Quebec, say bon?

So, I was in Quebec last week. I raced a canada cup. the last time I was at one of these bike races I was a lot fitter and younger. But I have old man strength right? wrong! I figured this race would be a good experience and I might even get some uci points.

The race was at mt Tremblant and its always a fun venue, I mean who doesn't like humid air and 8$ beer? All Quebec jokes aside the course was really awesome. Huge amount of climbing and a wicked technical decent. Maybe about 20 min laps. I was just killing anything technical with Devinci Dexter but was held up so bad in the single track by people who were riding anything but a Dexter. I had an ok race considering I started near the back and ended up finishing lucky number 13. If I was fitter I would have finished better. I dont think I have ever started that far back at a canada cup but I guess if you dont race for 4 years thats what you get.

I just might have had the best week ever!
On Monday Marty, Neal and I hit up Squamish hard! 3.5 hr mt bike ride (race) then rock climbing. Then watched the Canucks advance to the next round of the playoffs in a brew pub while eating burgers and drinking beer.

then I worked a couple days.

thursday I paddled the chilliwack river from alison pools to the raft ranch. then did two laps of the vedder twonie course.

Friday skied baker with Etsell and Annie. The real baker. But we only made it to the broken ankle saddle cause there was more wind on the ridge then there would be in marty's pants after a mexican feed bag.

Saturday raced the ore crusher in squamish

Sunday did the vedder super D and tried to paddle but sucked cause I got a wicked sun burn and my life jacket didn't show me any love. So went to the miller for free chilli and hockey!

Boo yeah Im so tired and now wednesday morning Im on a plane for quebec.

sunshine coaster bike race.

Went out to the sunshine coast with the new team. We raced the sunshine coaster bike race and it was a ton of fun. I felt the the new kit gave me a huge boost! the nativo clothing is unreal! And the Devinci dexter is just a sick bike for the BC single track. Also note the new camel back thing Im rocking. its like a bladder built into an under shirt. My new slogan for this camel back thing is "theres nothing better then riding your bike and sucking on a nipple at the same time".

the race went well I kind of rode in no mans land for the whole race. Neal was too strong for my old fat bones and I was able to hold the rest of the crew off based on the fact that my bike is really nice and my clothing is fast. so I finished in second. Not bad considering.

Since the forecast is calling for rain and rain and more rain I figured I should dust off the old boat and get out for a paddle. So this afternoon Jon and I did a little river run on the Chilliwack. I just want to get a couple easy ones under my belt before the river goes uber high. Spring is so unreal! We just did Tamihi down to pointa vista. Then rushed back had coffee at waves then had coffee again at waves. then hit a short wet mt bike ride. What an awesome day!

What a great weekend! Friday was so "good"! I skied in the Cheam Area with with Nate Etsell and we had an awesome day! I also did a couple laps of vedder then ate Easter dinner on my Dads side.
Saturday I just worked and at Easter Dinner on my Moms side.
Sunday was a huge day at Vedder with hero dirt and there was even chocolate eggs all over the trail, no joke!

One Day Garibaldi Neve Traverse

Sunday Marty, Stephen, and I did the Garibaldi - Neve traverse in one day. We got hit with just about every kind of weather you can imagine. We did the whole thing in just under 12 hours with waiting for some weather to clear so we didn't ski of a huge cornice. You know its a gooder when you finish the day and your feet look like hamburger. What a great day.

So I kind of got on this bike racing team for this year. Its all good. The team is called Nativo Concepts. Marty is kind of organizing the the west coast side of things and we are going to be doing some very sweet races this year.

The team for the west coast side of things is Marty Lazarski, Neal Kindree and myself. We got our bikes last friday and had a little bit of a build party. then went for a ride on the shore, oh the north shore! we really sent it over some huge 40 foot gap jumps and such. The bike we are racing this year is the Devinci Dexter SL. The bike is just awesome and really rips. I've been on a couple rides since the build and Im just loving it!

Oh what a great weekend! It was a classic west coast April weekend, pissing rain or looking like it was going to piss rain. Oh gotta love the moisture! So Saturday Nathan Etsell and I went up to the coq for some Pow and all we did was ski for a couple hours and cause some nice little slides with this really wet heavy slab that fell overnight, gotta love april right? we kind of cut the day short and ended up drinking coffee at the blue moose. Sunday was a little better, did the Fraser Valley Mountain bike association twonie race up on Sumas Mt. So much fun! trails were so muddy and I felt right at home. The race was a full on super D and I felt the burn in my lungs so bad! Im still coughing up a lung. The race was a little over 11min and Arthur was 5 sec back from me, that boy can sure shred the down and sure made me feel nervous in the end. just an awesome day. then I had a 2hr nap and watched waynes world, Party on wayne!

Just got back from the crowsnest pass. Met up with Troy and Christine and had a couple days of awesome skiing. Day one we did a huge day in the Waterton National park and the second day did a sled access in coleman. I kinda got sick in the process also. go figure, drive 13hrs then ski for 9hrs, and then get sick, really? what a great weekend.

Thats right! Ski and Ride in the same day? bring it! yesterday Brad"check out those huge wheels on my truck"Rogers and I woke up stupid early and got out to manning park for some sunrise skate ski. It was great! cold, fast, and fresh groom. We skied for a little over 2 hrs and drove home and hit the blue moose on the way home. Blue moose is an unreal little coffee shop in Hope, you should check it out. I might move to hope, they have good mt biking right? So after a nap I met up with a crew on sumas and rode some of the lower trails cause the snow line is still a little low. did Noah fear then rode Holiday sauce and Emma peal. great ride! then Hit the Jolly Miller, best day ever? maybe eh.

Saturday morning early Nathan Etsell and I went up to Needle peak at the coq. We were skiing by 830 and skied til about 1230, right before it got really warm and the 20cm fresh turned to mush. Great day, Great turns and I was even home to do domestic duty's in time.

This is on the ridge to needle peak. thats one big cornice. I should start bringing some cable in my pack so we can start cutting these. Its like rolling big rocks off cliffs when your a kid, and by kid I mean 28.

Dirty Duo

So with Marty out of town last week Tara and I decided we should do the dirty duo. The dirty duo is a race in North Vancouver that is a relay. One person does a 25km trail run and the other does a 30k mt bike. The race was a ton of fun. I think it rained the whole day. Tara did a great run and we got 3rd in the mixed division. I think the trails in north van are just great to ride when its pissing rain out cause the trails drain so well. Anyhow I got a ton of dirt in my eye and it was awesome.

Well talk about a case of the Monday's. Etsell and I hit the coq on Monday morning and it was off the wall good. Well everything north facing was off the wall. Everything south facing was just baked with a nasty sun crust. We shredded the Zoa area for about 5hrs then we hit the blue moose and it was almost the perfect day.

Toonie Racing

This past sunday was the first in a series of toonie races put on by the Fraser valley mountain bike association. Im going to race them but for this first one I didn't have my cycling license ready just yet so I was forced to volunteer and it was great. I would have rather raced but there will be a next time, April 3rd on sumas will be that next time. This series is just awesome, everyone should come out. www.fvmba.com

I would say ride of the day has to go to none other then Karen Rogers. Shes old and and placed 3rd overall in the womens! She was beating riders more then half her age! I stood at the steepest most gnarly spot on the course and Karen made it look like a walking path! No serious she might have been the smoothest rider through.

Saturday Nathan Etsell and myself went out to the mt baker back country. The reports showed that baker got 65 inch's of snow during the week. We skied our brains out in awesome pow town style. skied mt Herman for the most part and it was just blower! At 430, last run of the day I was skiing and went close to a tree and must have caught a branch just under the snow cause next thing I know Im having a yard sale crash. My one ski come off and I couldn't find it. Nathan and I dug till 6 and it was dark. Still no ski. unreal! I had to ski out on one ski fun times. what a great day.

I hit cypress for a quick tour and skate last night. so good, just puking snow! I kept the tour mellow and stayed very close to the winter trail but found some nice turns just off it. then the skate was good, I did about an hour and had fresh wax and fresh groom, after the hour the groom was not so fresh cause it was just puking pow. Today Im off to baker, looks like a blue bird too. oh mama cita.

How to get more caffeine in your diet.

Ok so below is the standard ricky bar recipe. make them and love them, however! Toby thought of putting coffee beans in the mix. so you can try doing some coffee beans in place of chocolate chips or nuts or whatever. enjoy the Ricky bar.

PS, mom can you make me some ricky bars with coffee beans in them? thanks.

Ricky Bars.
5cup-assorted crushed cereal, I like to mix in like 2cups quick oats then 3cups crushed cereal.
2/3 cup finely chopped dry fruit(dry pineapple is unreal)
2/3 cup chocolate chips
2/3 cup sunflower seeds or other small nuts
mix all this together in a massive bowl and set aside.

2/3cup honey
2/3cup brown sugar
1/2cup natural peanut butter
bring this to a boil on a stove top.
Stir the wet in to the dry and mix it up then put it all into a greased up pan and pack it to the size of bars you want. Let it cool down and cut it up. Then chow down.

Sunday sunday sunday!!!!!! Best pow day ever. I some how managed in true ski bum fashion to get picked up and dropped off with no car and a bunch of gear and ended up skiing in chin deep pow at Needle peak area in the trees with Nathan Etsell. and what a day it was! Im just trashed now. Time to eat the fridge and not play for a while, well maybe one day.

woke up, ate another massively over sized breakfast again and decided to park in the same parking lot at Bostock creek again. This time we were off to ski the other side of the valley called Fortitude ridge. Brain Bain came up the night before and also got to experience Toby's night breathing and Martin Lafontaine came up first thing in the morning. By first thing I mean 9am, Im on holidays remember. So there was a group of 7 of us and we farmed some serious pow! I think the top out for the day was 2200m and the run down again was to 900. so sweet! after skiing for 7hrs Marty and jumped in the car and drove back to the Fraser Valley. All in a days work. Another day, another dollar..........spent.

Rogers pass day 2

Rogers pass day two was unreal! Toby and Vinny drove in from Calgary late thursday. After a night of listening to Toby snore like a semi we were ready to shred like no ones business. After grilling the parks canada guy we found an area that was open and took a little access to get in and was north facing and might be pow town friendly. The area we skied was Christina trees. I think our peak elevation was 2200m. the car was parked at 900m so that tells you how long the run was. It was a pillow dropping dream in the woods and some unreal views. Toby, Vinny, Connor, Marty, and myself all took park, what an awesome day.

After spending the night in the tournament capital of Canada I hit the road early to the pass. I met up with the Corn Dawg master and the polish wonder child. We had the skins on by noon and had a great day skiing Video peak, 2400m I believe. then finding some sweet pow stashes in the Cheops area. the only down side of the day was that it was -16 and crazy windy. wind stopper clothing is a must and so is about 5 heavy winter jackets.

I just got back from a 5 day ski trip. It was going to be only a 3 day but now some how has turned into a 5 day. Well its only been 4 but Im about to depart to the coq for some pow town if the hwy will let us get there cause there is like 20 cm of snow....in chilliwack! Anyhow. Marty, Connor, Toby, and Vinny did 3 solid days at rogers pass. The stories are endless and the pow was tremendous! I did the drive solo cause Marty is a big wheel and flew out there, so I wanted to split the 7hr drive up and stayed with Keith and Catherine in Kamloops. they were so nice and even took me skate skiing at stake lake. We had a great night ski there. For those of you not in the know Catherine is kind of a big deal in womens Mt bike racing. oh yeah and it was -14 when we skied. I see now why they make wind proof underwear.

I have about a million photos from the pass and will try and get the good ones on here over the next week. so stay tuned.....

Went for a skate ski yesterday up at manning park. The conditions were unreal! so fast! fresh velvet mama! I was just solo for the ski. After the ski a group of us went to the Jolly Miller for a Jolly good time and free Chili. Its just Jolly!
This is on my drive home, I always love looking at this side of mt cheam.

So I just got back from a 5hr mt bike ride on all my favorite abbotsford trails. I took the local ride guys from Maple Ditch out for a ride. Oh so good! after the ride we hit some schnitzel. now Im in the body bag.

Wow the last week has been a hard one! I got the black lung (its more green) and have been in bed too much over the last week. But Im pulling it together and starting to feel good!

Blake has two kids, Aidan 4, and Ashton 2. they are so cute and Aidan asks a ton of questions. Even I don't have all the answers.

So I dropped some coin on this sweet Nikon s8100 camera, well I cant find it anywhere now. I think it might be lost for good. Nice eh. Plus I've been really sick this week. But I feel much better today and might get out and move later today. The folks were gone in Mexico last week also so I was doggy sitting Libby and Brad and Karen some how pawned their dog Charlie off on me so I had 3 dogs at my place and it was just a gong show. Feeding these guys took about 6 hrs because I had to feed them all different food and separate them for the feedings or libby would eat all the food and max would shrivel up and die. Then add chuck to the mix, oh boy what a week, but these dogs are so cute you just cant say no. I dont even want to think what my poor mom went through with 4 kids. The last week made me really think twice about wanting kids. so much work! so since I got no camera I got no photos of the dogs. I feel bad about posting no photos cause of my lack of camera. so here are some shots of skookumchuck from a couple summers ago. I think a trip needs to go back there this summer? whos with me?

7 sisters!

Well this last weekend was a such a good weekend. On Saturday I ended up meeting an old high school friend on face book named Nathan Etsell and we planed a back country ski day. we went to needle peak at that coquihalla. Then Sunday I did the 7 sisters trail run with Karen Rogers. Saturday was so good! Nathan was a champ and skied like a pro. I've never been to the 7 sisters before,(yes you can really have fun with all the 7 sister jokes) and it was awesome, its just 7 massive douglas fir trees, its really cool and I've never been there before so it was awesome!

Oh life is so good! Chicks eh? young ones. They need a lot of work. So anyhow the chickens will be 3 weeks old thursday and these photos are when they were a week old. still so cute! I also got a new camera so my hope is that my blog can take on a whole new look.

So when a bunch of chicks are coming over you got to clean up the place right? no chick in their right mind is going to fall for a guy with a dirty house. So this last week I've been really busy cleaning up the barns getting ready for 15000 little chickens to come over. The birds are in and all is good. Im watering and feeding them now and they are growing like weeds. its unreal how fast they grow up. its like 85 in the barn and those chicks are hot! I also was sweating like a monkey the last while. its kinda like working in a sauna. "its like a sauna in here"

Nate and I went up to baker for Jan 2nd and I guess the winding mountain road and to much flap jacks made Nate not feel to well. I had to stop like 3 times to let Nate Dawg get out of the car and toss his cookies. Now Nates a good friend and you really hate to see a friend not feel well like that, but watching other people puke is kinda funny. So when we got to the parking lot on this unreal blue bird power day I really wanted to ski, nate wanted to nap in the front seat of my car. So I found some other dudes that were skiing and asked to tag along, Nate said I should so its all good. Andy, Jon and Rob were the guys I met who are all from Bellingham and we had a great day skiing the Hermon saddle. Nate also met some guys after he felt better and ended up skiing shuksan arm. We met at the car after and it was a great day.

Being the party animal I am Toby and I decided to have a new years bash like no other. So we went and climbed mt cheam on skis. Happy new year everyone! we drove my trusty deer killer car up chipmunk creek road as far as we could. Then strapped on the skis and made a mad push for the summit. we also did a couple laps in the sweet pow and we were gone from 9am - 4pm. It was the best ski of my life, no joke! a summit, climbing with no shirts, unreal blue bird day, pow town like no ones business, and an awesome sandwich half way. This is as good as it gets!

Oh yes now would it really be a chilliwack adventure without finding some redneck to left his beer cans on the side of the road? we ran into these guys on the way down and I told them they forgot some cans up the road, well! he told me there were other people up the road, yeah Im sure the organic granola snowshoe crunchers left the rainier beer cans behind. (the red neck guys had lifted dodge trucks and were burning pallets and drinking rainier beer) you just got to love chilliwack. then at the bottom of the road some dude rolled his quad on top of himself and was getting air lifted out. you got to love natural selection.

so after the ski toby and I went back to the farm and ate leftover turkey and then went over to some crazy peoples house. We drank wine and ate cheese cake then went home at 11. I was sleeping by 1130. Im a party animal! that cake was unreal! CAAAAAAAKKE!

Calaghan skate ski.

Thursday Toby and I headed up to the calaghan for some unreal skate skiing. I've been to the calaghan about 5 times before and never had a blue bird day. Until Thursday and it was well worth it. The real story of the day is how I bonked really bad. So I woke up at 5am ate oatmeal then drove to whistler waxed skis and was skiing by like 9 then we pissed around for a while cause toby broke a pole and we got lost. Then we hit this 15km climb up to Calaghan lodge and worked hard and sweat lots and just had a riot! then it was -11c at the lodge and we had to go down for 15k. I was so hungry and just frozen half way down and my body really shut down. I almost fainted when toby was shoving hot packs in my gloves cause I thought my fingers were done. My body was telling me Im an Idiot! You got to eat you know. you got to bring extra clothing you know. so dumb. I guess im still learning. what a day, one for the books.

U pow year two.

Toby's in town for year two of u pow. So far we have skied pauls ridge in Squamish and Zoa peak on the coq. We have just been getting dumped on and its just pow town everywhere! Here are the photos and the good times. I think Thursday we are going skate skiing at the Calaghan and then going to try and bag some peak somewhere on friday. No real time for sleeping in however. Getter done.
Thanks to B and K's tip about the Blue moose cafe in Hope we enjoyed some awesome brew on the way home from the coq.
Christmas is such an awesome time! Family, Friends, and the leftovers. This is my back country meal of the day. Triangle bun with cranberry sauce and turkey. Sweet sweet leftovers. mmmm. coke too, dont forget coke.

dropping in on some sweet sweet. So I got these poles from MCC last year and they are getting some many complements out on the mountain whenever we do end up running into ppl. I got them for $2. maybe the best 2$ ever spent. totally worth it.

Blood, Sweat, and Cookies?

All right! what a great week! we live in the best place ever!
First annual Cookie run at peninsula runners abbotsford! cookies are so good!
Nate and I found this gem on the drive home from the cookie run! I dont think it had any rust.
Saturday Needle peak with Brad, Karen, and Greg. It was a serious adventure. Max also came.
Back country meal of the day. Safeway California dreaming sandwich. mmmmm!
My Kid. He is so fast, but he tends to get in the way sometimes.
Oh boy! Send the animal rights guys after me for posting this. So Im skiing down this fast part and Max gets in the way and I cut his leg with my ski. No yelp, no nothing! then we are skiing out and I see blood all over the snow and I wonder what up? then I see the blood on max and realized I cut him up pretty bad. So I decided I had to get max back to the car and fix him up. Greg is a beginner skier so I had to leave him to go down himself. The trail was very clear so he should be fine. I booted down with a bloody Max and fixed him up with nurse Karen at the car. (see next photo for the after shot) Then we are waiting and after much confusion we all ended up at the car half hour after dark. Greg ended up loosing the trail and fallowed max's blood trail out. What a day.
Nice eh? I think Im going to be a vet in my next life. Electric tape, TP and hand sani. Good as new. Max is going to make a full recovery. He ran 8k this morning and the cut is looking great!

10c and just pissing rain! So wet and awesome! Got to love sitting inside drinking coffee listening to the rain on the tin roof. Anyhow this last week was a bit more chill then Im used to. The freezing level went way up and it got really warm and I had to work a bit. But it was still a great week. I got to skate ski manning park Saturday on some very nice conditions. Sunday I played Brad "ridged" Rogers in Squash and got closer then I've ever been. I think its only a matter of time now before he starts to age and I get younger. I did take him down however in the push up pyramid. I didn't really take my camera out this week so really I got nothing. But I got my new skate skis!

Oh oh I also got a new cell phone! the free athletes gravy train phone has come to a screeching halt!it only took them 3 years too figure it out but hey thats fine by me. I got a really good plan, I hope. I got free incoming calls! so Call me! I got free evenings and weekends too! So Ill just call you after 6. Bring it. I was going to get an IPhone but I don't think Im cool enough so I just got another flipper. oh Flipper.

These are the new pain sticks. Oh mama are they fast. I forgot what it feels like to go so fast on skate skis. Its such a rip! I just need to use them more.

First off, Im not a runner......but I do run. I got these sweet brooks ghost 3 shoes a while ago and just love them! they may be the best "running" shoe I have ever laced up. So comfortable and cushy! I should run more, I really would like to have my 10k down to 31.58.

Friday I got to ski in the coq area with Curtis and Dave. We headed up thar peak and ended up finding a lot of wind affected areas but did find some good turns along the way. We kind of ended up doing a loop right around thar peak and back along the frozen shores of falls lake. Such an awesome day. totally blower bro!

This might rank very high on the list of back country lunches of all time. NO joke! So I got an awesome thermos last year from Christmas and have been using it a ton as of late and there's nothing like some warm spiked tea atop a mountain. The sandwich is a costco triangle bun with (they cost about 4.99 for a 100 buns) then I put some mayo and bbq sauce on with a bunch of fried up deli meats, full mixed grill. Wow its good! Food always tastes so much better in the back country eh?

Just before we got around to falls lake we had to get through a maze of boulders. I felt like a kid on the back of a box of pro starts trying to get out of the hockey rink. it was so crazy some of the boulders were just massive like these ones. I dont climb at all but the boys do and they were saying it could be a great area to do some bouldering.

Saturday I took my cousin Craig up to the heliotrope ridge area up on baker. Again we found some great pow pow but so much wind affected areas. It was really cool cause you come around the corner and mt baker is like BAM!!!! in your face. Its such a beautiful area! I love it out there. The real story is how bad we got the car stuck in the middle of nowhere and how we helped another group dig their truck out and how we got some free smoked salmon and then found a thermos with hot chocolate in it and ended up giving some smoked salmon to these two girls whose thermos it was. But thats a story for another day.

This last week was unreal! we got like a foot of snow in abby and it was on! I skate skied down the road with max, it was unreal! also.......

So Klade and I went to get take out sushi but it was going to take 15 min for the sushi master to make it so this is what we did in our waiting time. Abbotsford has no shortage of Church parking lots, and its a good thing I have some sleds and rope in the car for emergency purposes. Most fun I have ever had! so random

see Klade came right from hot yoga and was not really ready for the fun times but he still had a go at it, shorts and all.
This sushi was so worth the wait! it was good.

Also, Movember is now over. Oh its so nice to be normal (or normal to me) again. I got a hair cut too. clean cut eh? bring it!

Oh sweet mama! its the last week of movember for me. For the last week Im rocking the "Charlie Chaplin". I cant wait til this week is over. Monday afternoon I was skate skiing at cypress and rocking the stash and I realized half way through my ski I was wearing this nice German national team Jacket I got about 10years ago. I really think I got some strange look thats day. ( much stranger then the looks I normally get) I had a great ski too! The Germans are coming!

So bad, Im sorry.
Any given Tuesday the Abby gators running club came out to Peninsula runners for a run. We did 7.5km in -11c oh so fun! but there was pizza right after. Nice tights Jay, you are looking fine.

It sure feels like winter. Board games and skiing. yup its winter.

There was like 5 chicks in my kitchen at the same time, it was like a dream. they were all cooking and cleaning. Does it get any better then that? Nikki made these awesome looking enchiladas, then when they poured the cold sauce on the top of the enchiladas, the glass dish they were baked in just blew up all over the kitchen, it was epic. The glass was in everything, the other pan of enchiladas was ruined and so was a tasty looking squash soup. such a disaster eh?

I sure hope it snows soon. this past week was kind of chill. I spent some days nursing a little bit of a sore knee, but I think its all good now. I am now on week 3 of my movember program. just a nice simple stash. its so nice. I played hockey on friday and the sweat and other things that might drip out of the nose get stuck in the stash. Its out of control. I now really have some mad respect for Glen Anderson.

some new friends I met at waves. Toby, Sam, and Max. Max is the boarder collie, cool eh? Toby is the Sheltie and they said toby doesn't listen very well and is kind of slow. I found that kind of interesting.

Jay rolled his ankle on sunday. Check out the purple on his foot! insane.

Then on Tuesday I went Mt biking with a couple of Canada's best road cycling dorks. We rode vedder and went up to hang gliders and it was awesome to get back up there after about 3 years. I really do miss that place.

The boys not really wanting to get hurt decided to walk this one. I told em just point it straight and let go of the brakes. Trust me, nothing bad ever happens.

Its kind of any given sunday, but its on a tuesday. Last tuesday we ran these stairs out in abbotsford and I was able to make Jason and carly almost puke. there was some eye ball breathing but no vomit. This week Carly bailed and it was up to Jay and I to uphold the any given tuesday group. So we hit the track out in abby and we each ran the mile. It was really neat down at the track at night, the lights were on and everything we could have called it "tuesday night lights"(friday night lights) but whatever. I've never ran the mile before so it was all new to me. Back when jay was younger and had less of a spare tire he could run the mile in 4'20. Yeah bro 420! so before we did it we made bets on what we would run. I bet I would do just sub 5, like a 4'55. Jay bet he would do a 5'20 -5'40. So jay went first and bam right on the mark 5'30 for jay. then I went and did a 4'55 right on the nose. Crazy eh? then we went and at some chicken crock pot dinner at Jay's and listened to Bruce Cockburn while we discussed if they should legalize marijuana. The crock pot was so good. the meat just falls right off the bone. the bone is so soft you can eat the bone. I felt like a cave man with this animal Im growing on my face and the bone eating experience. What a night. The crock pot might have been a little better with some mustard.

chilliwack river canyon

about a month ago I ran the chilliwack river canyon with Kiah and Jordan. it was all good! that was before winter hit and it started raining . Kiah has a camera and brought it with so we got a couple of bad photos for your enjoyment.

I kind of flipped over on the rapid called cocaine. "she dont lie, she dont lie! cocaine!" I got my roll however unlike a fellow named Klade who swam twice the day before. So I guess you could say I rolled some cocaine. Or I got flipped out on cocaine, or I had a flipping good time on cocaine.
